Measurement Guide
Correct measurement of the area is critical to the success
of your project. This guide will help you in the process.
Most rooms have walls, windows, doors, floors and ceilings. The key
to ordering the correct cabinets is to take the following measurements
of the area where the cabinets need to fit:
- Height - How tall is the space
- Width - How wide is the area
- Depth - from the back of the cabinet to the front
It is important to measure the entire room. It is better to measure
too much than not enough.
5 Steps to successfully measuring a room
- Go into the room you are redesigning and bring the following items:
- Tape measure
- Pencil
- Scratch paper
- Imagine where in the room you'd like cabinets:
- Remember you have things in the room that you usually need
or want: sink, stove, refrigerator. , dishwasher. These items
usually aren't moved because of the water and electrical needs.
- Larger kitchens sometimes have different work areas including
separate cook tops, oversized sinks or separate rinse sinks.
Take all these components into account as you imagine the new design.
- Now that you have a picture in mind, measure the area. You should
measure the area in two ways. The entire floor plan of the room,
and wall by wall. There are two examples shown below.
- Use the scratch paper. This is just the first drawing, it
will be redrawn.
- Measure, Measure, Measure - It is better to have to many measurements
than not enough.

| Note: Anytime
you measure a window or door, measure from outside the trim.
Cabinets can't be hung on the trim. |
- Locate your current plumbing and electrical and indicate them
on the drawing.
- Is your layout staying the same? Indicate where these are
now.
- If you are changing the layout of the room, make sure you
indicate where the electrical and plumbing will be located.
Review your layout again to make sure they have been located
correctly.
- Take your rough drawings to a professional. Let them assist you
with the fine tuning of your design.
If you don't feel confidant in this process, have a skilled professional
designer or contractor assist you.
